Moroccan Rose Water: Benefits and Secrets of the Valley of Roses
Share
A symbol of beauty since antiquity, the rose holds a special place in Moroccan rituals. In the Dadès valley, known as the “valley of roses”, the Damask rose harvest sets the rhythm of village life each spring and gives rise to one of the most precious floral waters in the world.
Rose water, a treasure of the Dadès valley
Every year in April and May, tonnes of Rosa damascena petals are picked by hand at dawn, when their fragrance is at its most concentrated. Steam-distilled, they yield rose water: a delicate hydrosol, used for generations in facial care as well as in family traditions.
The benefits of rose water for your skin
- Toning: it tightens pores and revives radiance, ideal in the morning.
- Soothing: it calms redness and feelings of heat, particularly after exfoliating or sun exposure.
- Refreshing: misted over the face, it hydrates and relaxes at any point in the day.
- Balancing: it suits every skin type, even sensitive or mature ones.
How to use it day to day
- As a toner: morning and evening, on a cotton pad or as a mist, after cleansing.
- After the hammam or a scrub: to soothe the skin before applying an oil, such as our argan and rose serum.
- As a cooling touch: kept in the fridge, it depuffs the eye area.
Choosing your rose water well
Favour a pure rose water, traditionally distilled, with no added fragrance or unnecessary preservatives. The label should read Rosa Damascena Flower Water. At ArgaRose, our M'gouna floral water comes straight from Moroccan craftsmanship — and it is what inspired half of our name.
